Learn magic

You decide to take a basic lesson in all forms of magic, just to generally improve, though you’d like to focus on Mind magic. You also want to at least try and learn something about Raw magic. “Alright, and what about you two?” Ken turns to the other two.

“A basic lesson will be fine for me as well.” Elykae nods. “I would just like to have an understanding of magic. I am certain it will be of use.”

“I don’t know.” Myla shrugs. “I mean, like I said before, I don’t know the first thing about magic. I doubt I’m really gonna learn anything.”

“Hm, alright then.” Saying that, the elf hands Myla and Elykae some books. “There’s a bit of reading you should start with. While you two are doing that, I can see if I can teach our bird here something about Raw magic. Here, let’s…”

“Er…” Myla looks at the book in front of her with a slightly annoyed look. “Yeah, maybe this isn’t going to work…”

“Eh? Is there a problem?” Ken asks. You hesitantly admit that Myla doesn’t really know how to read too much. “Eh? Wait, really? I thought she looked pretty smart though? Didn’t you go to school or something?”

“… I’m from a village in Mesai.” The wolfgirl frustratingly admits. “So no, I didn’t go to school.”

“A-ah… Sorry about that.” The elf thinks for a moment. “It’s going to be hard to teach you any magic if you can’t read though… Well, except…” He pauses for a bit, thinking about something. “Here, come over here with the bird.” He motions for her to follow you and him to the other side of the room.

“Alright.” She shrugs and follows. The three of you head to another part of the room, likely just so that you don’t disturb Elykae while she reads up. “So what do you have planned here?”

“Raw magic is a bit unusual.” Ken explains. “There’s basically no tomes on the subject. This is mostly because the only real way to learn it is to just experiment and give it a shot. If the wolf can’t read, then Raw magic is likely the best sort that she can manage to learn.” You ask if it’d be safe for someone with no magic experience to learn such a difficult element. “It isn’t really ‘safe’ for anyone. Raw magic is, as the name implies, controlling pure magic energy in a raw form. This form can prove quite powerful, but it’s also unstable, meaning that it can go haywire quite easily, even for an experienced mage.” With that, Ken starts to focus some magic. “All I can really do to teach you about this is to show you how to cast a spell. From there, you’ll have to just experiment until you’re able to control it.” As he casts, he continues to explain more about Raw magic. The goes into detail about how to make the energy flow into a spell, and moreso, how to avoid a backfire. He casts a small burst of Raw energy to show an example before letting you and Myla give your attempt at it.

You focus energy into a cast, following Ken’s example. It takes quite a bit of effort, but you do eventually manage to get a small Raw burst off. You attempt it a few more times, eventually coming to an understanding of how it works. “Pretty good.” The elf praises you a bit. “You seem to be quite a natural at magic.” He turns to Myla, motioning for her to try now.

“Er… Alright.” Myla hesitantly nods and starts to focus energy herself. It takes her a while, and you can tell she’s trying quite hard to focus on this. After a bit of time, she finally speaks up. “I… I think I have it? I just uh… release it now, right? Here, I’ll just… W-wait a-” She’s cut off by a sudden burst of Raw magic energy. Quite a big burst actually. The blast knocks all three of you down to the floor, though you aren’t injured. “Urgh… That… didn’t work, did it?”

“Hahah!” Ken laughs a bit as he goes to stand back up. “Actually, that wasn’t a backfire. That was a proper spell. I think you just put a bit too much effort into it. That’s not too bad for someone who’s never done magic before! You practice that, and eventually you might be able to do something quite interesting with it.” You’re a bit surprised to see that Myla actually managed to cast something significant so quickly. You ask Ken if this is normal. “With Raw magic, it varies a lot with the person. Some people just seem to be naturally good at it. Maybe our cute wolf here is a natural, eh?”

“Huh…” Myla looks at her hands, obviously still surprised that she managed to do it herself. “I mean… It’ll certainly be useful, I think. Never thought I’d ever cast anything though…”

With the Raw magic lesson complete, you head back over to the table with Elykae. The rest of the lesson is spent with Ken teaching the three of you about the other elements and just general magic use. You feel like you’re actually learning a fair amount from all this, and the focus on Mind magic makes you feel more comfortable with the element. Elykae also seems to learn a good amount. However, Myla seems to struggle with the concepts, so you’re not sure if she’s really learned much. You imagine her illiteracy doesn’t help too much. In the end though, all three of you come out of it with more knowledge than you had to start with.

With your lesson complete, you thank Ken for his help. “No problem! I mean, you girls gave me a good time, after all. I can’t deny that sort of thing.” The elf gives you a smile. “I’d actually ask if any of you wanted to become an apprentice, but I imagine you have other things you need to do, am I right?” You nod to him, admitting that you won’t be in the city for much longer. “That’s a shame. Well, if you ever are in town again, feel free to stop by. I know I’ll be up for another ‘lesson’ anytime you want. Heheh.”

“We still have a short time before the airship arrives.” Elykae speaks up. “Is there any other tasks we need to see to before we leave?”

So much stat increase! :V

Learning from a skilled trainer can get you quite a lot. Also, learning a lot all at once can increase stats as well. :V

That being said, you can only learn so much from trainers. You can’t learn any skill above skill level 10 from a trainer. At that point, you just gotta learn it yerself. :V

  1. Beyond say farewell to Nerron and retrieve our party members, mostly just relax, maybe go shopping.

Other than that, I say we give Kaiti a bit of “fun” if she wants it, she’s one of the few that we’ve yet to do that too after all :V

And neat, we can cast a mana explosion, I think we need to practice that a little just to see it’s power.
